This is me!

Hi guys, sorry this is is a little late, I just joined the class!

betterlate1

My name is Brielle, I am a junior JMS major.  I am 20 years old (turning 21 in January!!!!)  I am a jersey native and grew up in Franklin Lakes, NJ in Bergen county.  I am member of the Rutgers Women’s Soccer Team.     I have been playing soccer since I was 8 years old so it also is a major part of my life and a big part of my identity.  I love working out and hanging out with my friends.  I am constantly surrounded by my best friends who happen to be my teammates.  As a student athlete I am very busy, but I wouldn’t trade my experience for anything.

All of my teammates say I have an obsession with sneakers.  I have so many different pairs of Nike shoes and I am constantly shopping for new ones.  Since we have to wear our team uniform pretty much every day, Sneakers are a great way for me to add a bit of personality to our all black practice uniforms.  I love all different models of Nikes but they all have one thing in common, they are all bright colors!!!

I have an older brother named Robert who is 22. He just graduated from Monmouth University and is currently living Georgia and attending Life University to become a Chiropractor.  I also have a dog named Riley.  One of the coolest pets that I have ever had was a duck named Albert.  I had him for seven years, and he followed me around because AI had him since he was a duckling.

Hmmm what else….A lot of people tell me I have a very dry sense of humor, which I guess I do.  I am sarcastic and blunt and have been my entire life.  My biggest pet peeve is when people can be sarcastic and dish out insults and humor but can’t take it when people make fun of and joke back at them.

I love lifting and working out outside of soccer.  I find it peaceful and mind clearing.  Jillian Michaels is one of my idols and The Biggest Loser is my FAVORITE reality tv show.

I am looking forward to this class for many different reasons, the main being that I learned a lot about blogs last semester, and being able to learn more and use blogs more creatively is very exciting.  I cannot wait to see what is to come.

That’s all for now!

A lil’ bit mo’ ’bout Moe

Me at Firefly Music Festival 2013

Hey  everyone, my name is Monique Gordon, but you guys can call me Moe. I’m a sophomore here at Rutgers University. I was born in New Jersey, grew up in Elizabeth and went to high school in Scotch Plains. I don’t bite and I always try to play nice. I’m into pretty normal girl things, good music, good food, and good times. I also like to giggle and play with glitter and confetti. I’m currently undeclared but am hoping to become a computer science major officially next semester, and I’m currently deciding what I should minor in so that is TBA.

I consider myself a Dougie girl at heart and will stand up for that campus until the end but I now live off-campus, close to college ave. I have five housemates a few friends and a boyfriend. Now all I need is a dog. Here is some photographic evidence that I do have friends, housemates, and a boyfriend and I only need a dog.

Proof of my friends

I’m actually extremely excited about this creative writing course because I have always found blogs to be fascinating. I find it so interesting to see complete stranger so readily involved in and captivated by other strangers through a website. I’ve always wanted to be able to write a blog that would entice people to become regular visitors and I can’t wait to learn techniques and strategies on creating and maintaining a blog that readers might actually find worthwhile, and even more important one that I find entertaining and worthwhile, hopefully something I can be proud of.

& I can’t wait to share it with you guys!

Aloha!

In India this summer with me (far left), my brother (middle right), and my two cousins.

In India this summer with me (far left), my brother (middle right), and my two cousins.

No, I am not Hawaiian. I am, in fact, Indian (both my parents were born and raised in India). My name is Hirsh Gupta, and am a sophomore in the School of Arts and Sciences. Currently a pre-business major, I am still confused about which major I want to pursue, although I do have a vague idea, either economics or something in the business school. I am born and raised in New Jersey (I was actually born in New Brunswick!) and I currently live in Plainsboro, a fairly small town outside of Princeton. Central Jersey exists!

In my spare time I like to hang out with friends, play basketball, watch TV, and play video games. I am also a HUGE sports fan; the Yankees are my  favorite team and baseball is by far my favorite sport. In fact, it would probably be tough for you to find a bigger baseball fan than I am. I also like the Brooklyn Nets (NBA), NJ Devils (NHL), and the NY Jets (NFL). I mostly enjoy sports video games, but I also enjoy shooter games such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto (it may not technically be a shooter game, but guns are heavily involved in the gameplay). I love watching sitcoms and other comedy related shows, and some of my favorites include Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, and Family Guy. My favorite comedian is Russell Peters. Up until this summer, comedy shows were pretty much the only shows I would watch, but I got hooked onto Breaking Bad (possible spoiler alert), Suits, and Dexter.

I pretty much listen to all types of music. If you were to look at the songs I listen to, they are all over the place. Seriously, one song would be by Eminem and the next could be by The Beatles or K’Naan (you guys should seriously check him out) or Red Hot Chili Peppers. I also used to play the trumpet for about seven years and the viola for one year before that (my brother allegedly brainwashed me into quitting the viola to play the trumpet). I played for my high school’s marching band for three years and the jazz band for four years (I am not a band geek, I swear!!) and enjoyed all the different experiences I had and friends I made along the way.

I hope to enjoy read all of your (hopefully) fun-filled blogs, and also hope that you guys will enjoy mine (whatever it may be about)!

A Quick Bio About Me!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My daughters on their 1st day of high school! They are fraternal twins!

Hi everyone, my name is Karen Cronin. I live in North Brunswick.  I am married and mother to twin daughters who just started high school this week!  I am happy and sad about this!

I am originally from Dumont which is in Bergen County.  I was a Douglass College student after graduating from high school in the VERY early 1980’s but decided to leave before graduating to enter the working world.  I came back to Rutgers four years ago to finish my BA in English and minor in Women’s & Gender Studies and will be graduating this December. Finally!  I am hoping to work in a library because I love reading and believe literacy is so important!  I have been a substitute teacher for 8 years and am trained as a tutor for Literacy Programs of New Jersey.

I have been a Springsteen fan for over 30 years!  I hope everyone knows who that is!  I was able to see him 3 times in NJ last year.  I am not a big TV watcher but do love Downton Abbey.  I love reading and anything creative and crafty.  I love Pinterest and food and home decorating blogs.  I spend most of my summers at the beach, except for this summer.  My beach house was damaged during Sandy so we have torn it down & are in the midst of plans to build a new one.  We had intended to build a new house anyway, so we are just doing it a little sooner than we thought.  Our new house should be ready next summer & it will be storm proof, I hope!

H3i guise

Hey, guys! I’m completely new to this whole blogging thing so just bare with me. My name is Giselle and I’m a sophomore here at RU with plans to major in communication and minor in anthropology. I’m super into music, fashion, and, of course, food. I work at Alexander on College Ave so if you see me at the front desk, feel free to say hi! 🙂

My friends and me at Firefly Music Festival.

My friends and me at Firefly Music Festival.

Like I said, I love music. Going to concerts and festivals are some of my favorite things to do! My music taste is pretty eclectic but I tend to lean towards pop-rock. My favorite bands are the Shins and Vampire Weekend.

Just like any other 19-year old girly girl, I love fashion. My favorite designer is Marc Jacobs even though I own like zero of his things. I’m just a poor college student, ya know? I like to go to thrift stores and find unique things—I’m big into finding old jeans and cutting them up to make boyfriend jeans or cut-off shorts.

I’m also a big foodie. I will honestly eat just about anything as long as sundried tomatoes aren’t involved. I basically became I professional sandwich-maker from working at a sub shop so if you’re ever looking for sandwich advice, I got you.

My friends and family are also a really big part of my life. I grew up in Illinois and moved to Jersey a couple of years ago so a big part of me is still in the midwest with all of my best friends. Anyway, I love being with my friends, but who doesn’t. I even scheduled some of my classes with them, including this class. 🙂

Can’t wait to read about the rest of you!

Let’s get to know me….well some of me

MEEEEEEEE

Me at age 6 showing displaying my heritage to the world

My name is Yadybel Ayala and I am a third year. I am kind of shy at first but I am a jokester at heart.  I am currently doing pre-med with a biology major (as hillary stated in her post). Just like her I am a commuter and sleep on my comfortable tempur-pedic bed. Life as a science major sucks!!!! No sleep at all but you learn to eventually live and love it, although it may take more time loving it because most people like their sleep.

I am a mix. My mother is from Dominican Republic and my father is from El Salvador. I grew up with VERY  hispanic parents where la chancla and la Correa were very threatening as children. If you do not know what I mean watch this video and you will understand.I grew up in a house hold where family is everything.  Besides my parents I live with my 13 year old brother, Chris,  who is six years younger than me.   Even though our age difference is quite large we are extremely close and I love him to death. He will forever be my baby brother  ( I say this as I squeeze his cheeks). I also have an older brother, Jaime,  who is two years older than I am but he does not live with me. We have the same father but different mothers. He is the person who got me into all things japanese and anime at the age of four.

My first painting…of course

I love watching anime and reading manga it’s kind of my thing. Growing up with it made me love it more over the years and the passion my brother had for it and it’s art was also passed onto me. My favorite anime’s have been Naruto, Bleach,Death note, Sailor moon oh and so many more. I also love to draw ; being busy at school has taken away time from drawing but I still love it! You can say I’m kind of on the nerdy side. Besides watching anime I loved to watch drama’s. I first got into them by watching Japanese dramas but  then I discovered the Korean channel and started watching those; Korean dramas are the best. Watch them all the time and Lee Min Ho is the best….just saying

tumblr_mcnqpcqoG71r81wtbo1_500

He states the facts!!!

Another hobby of mine is watching lots and lots of tv shows. I currently have a very very long list but my top shows right now are Grey’s Anatomy (omg why do people die each season (still crying over sloan and lexi), Teen wolf (If Derek leaves I leave! I’m still mad they took Jackson), The walking dead (i really think this will happen to us and why are all the women in that show annoying), pretty little liars, New Girl, Game of thrones, Revenge and beauty and the beast. I also got into the new show Twisted. The end of the first season definitely hooked me to this new series. Love, hate, mysteries, secretes, murders and psychopaths? These are some great shows but my all time favorite has to go to Friends.  No character will make me laugh more than Chandler Bing!!!! Can you BEEE anymore obvious!! I guess I say this because I’m a 90’s kid and our television is so much better than television today. 90s had great sitcoms.

the why am i friends with her look!!!

Besides school and hobbies my friends are a great part of my life. I am a goofy person so I love the fact that all my close friends embrace my comedic side. I have three close friends. My first has been my best friend since the the 6th grade and we have a beautiful relationship of 9 years, Astrid Mendoza. She is the friend I’ve had the longest and I am an absolute clown in front of her; I keep her around because she laughs at all my corny jokes and finds it entertaining when I attempt to do a british accent and it turns country. My next best friend is Jennifer Olivares. We have been friends since the 9th grade. We don’t live in the same town but we make sure to see each other often. She giggles more than I do and laughs at my jokes to (clearly I’m only friends with people who laugh at my jokes).  My third best friend is Hillary Escoboza. We met our freshman year in college and have been inseparable ever since. She is like me, a person who loves to laugh and make jokes especially in very uncomfortable and awkward situations. If you ever find me on campus you’ll most likely find her somewhere close (right beside me). Even though I  haven’t given her book back I know that she’ll still stick around. Those are my three closest friend but I also have another person very near and dear to my heart which is my Canadian cousin Laura Sparapani. We do not look related but we are. I thought I was clumsy until I met her. She can not go anywhere without stumbling or tripping or hurting or breaking something (it’s really funny and Astrid thinks so too). She is clumsy in the sense that if you were right next to her ad told her to catch a basketball she would most likely break her finger (true story). She is probably one of the funniest people on this planet.

A Taste of What To Expect

Hello fellow classmates. My name is Teddy and I am a mechanical engineering major here at Rutgers. I’m a junior but I’ll probably end up having to do an extra semester.

I have an interest in many things, the first of which is extreme sports. I have been skateboarding and snowboarding since the 4th grade however I still don’t have the skills to show for it yet. Among my skills in skateboarding and snow boarding I have a talent for acrobatics. Flips and aerial spins was my specialty in my high school break dance club.313_22988484510_3091_n

Another topic I am very interested in is more of a guideline than anything, but I like to just have fun. It is how I live my life and it’s how i base my personality. The most important thing that I try to focus on lately is cars. As a kid I always liked going to the classic car show with my friends and family and just looking at all the neat cars. From the 67′ Chevy Impala to the 2013 Subaru Impreza Wrx Sti, I have always been fascinated at the amount of integrity going into these cars. And since I’m on my way to becoming a mechanical engineer I would love to focus more on engines or the suspension of cars.

When I’m not spending the majority of my time outside skateboarding or messing around with cars, I spend my indoor time either working at Sports Authority or just aimlessly wandering Youtube for new and interesting music. Here’s my latest favorite song.

Well that was a little taste of myself. So very nice to spend a class with all of you!

Hello All, Nice to Meet You

Hello everyone, my name is Brian Moy and as the title suggests, it is very nice to meet you.

I am currently a sophomore and am mostly likely going to pursue a degree in accounting (or so I hope). My hobbies include: watching sports, playing sports, gaming, exercising, watching anime, hanging out with my friends and sharing a good laugh. I can see that many other people in this class like anime so I hope that we can all get into a group discussion one day! My hobbies also include the standard things that I believe all people like to do (ie sleeping, eating). After all, there is never a bad time to take a nap!

I won't fall asleep in this class of course but....

I won’t fall asleep in this class of course but….

As for my personality, I would say that I am a strange person. I love humor and comedy yet at the same time I can be pretty cynical and pessimistic. I do like the company of others and yet I would primarily consider myself to be a introvert. Overall though, I would consider myself to be a pretty friendly guy.

I don't really think like this but I thought this was funny.

I don’t really think like this but I thought this was funny.

I’m also a really into pc gaming. So if anyone loves TF2, Left 4 Dead 2, or has a Steam account, don’t hesitate to add me. My username is: March of the Pandas.

In terms of music I am pretty much all over the place. I love rap, modern rock, old rock, punk, jazz, ska, trip-hop, hip-hop, techno, house music, even a little bit of classical once in a while. A couple bands that have currently been bouncing around in my head is Streetlight Manifesto (a band that started in New Brunswick!) and a rapper named Wax.

Here are a couple of samples from these guys:

Streetlight Manifesto- Forty Days     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-W53RjPJIAU

Wax- Music and Liquor               http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pFp8pcHeDo

Basically that’s me in a nutshell. I’m pretty much your average guy who likes sports, anime, and spends way too much time online. Nice to meet you ^.^

Megan: The Basics

Me at Senior Prom

Me at Senior Prom

Hey there!  I’m Megan Murray, a Junior at Rutgers.  I am a Computer Science Major and a Technical Writing minor.  Long story short, I pretty much live on my computer.  While of course no one likes stereotypes, I suppose I’m not really breaking any molds here:  I’m kind of a dork, I love to play video games, I sleep until 1pm on weekends, I’ve watched my share of anime, when I put on makeup I don’t really know what i’m doing, and I’ve avoided numerous social obligations just so I could just sit around on my computer.

As for video games, I mostly PC game, online playing League of Legends, World of Warcraft, and recently, Final Fantasy XIV.  Offline games I like are The Elder Scrolls (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim) and well, who can resist the Sims?  I have also been playing Pokemon since Yellow and am eagerly awaiting the new X and Y games!  Other games I have spent way too much time playing include all the Smash Brothers, Harvest Moons, and Animal Crossing.  But enough about video games – there are more things I do with my life, right?

Besides being on the computer, I’m an avid baker.   I do like cooking, but why have regular, boring food when you could have dessert? I mean, come on now.  I prefer to make mini cakes when I’m just baking for fun, because really, a full size cake is pretty big when you want to make like seven cakes.  I am, however, not the biggest fan of cupcakes.  Naturally, I’ve gotten into making quite a few video game cakes.

Cake from Portal

Cake from Portal

In another class I took at Rutgers, Web Authoring, I created a website for some of the game baking I’ve done.  It’s a really cheesy website, as the professor was insistent on the theme being extremely prevalent, but it does its job.  I want to revamp / finish the website, but keep putting it off.

Besides gaming and baking, I also love horses!  I prefer to ride english, but western is pretty comfy.  I am going to be joining the Rutgers Equestrian Team for the first time this year.  I have not competed since I was 13, but hopefully I can get back in the swing of things!  Riding a horse is kinda like riding a bike, you don’t forget.  You just get sore.  Just before the semester started my family went to Aruba, and I was able to gallop on a horse for the first time!  It really is the best feeling in the world.

Riding in Aruba! (I'm on the left)

Riding in Aruba with my twin sister! (I’m on the left)

That’s enough about me for now, I look forward to reading some interesting blogs from all of you!  😀

Greetings!

(NOTE: Play the music video while reading. It makes it so much less boring. You might have to scroll down a bit to find it)

Me holding up some famous tower in Italy.

My name is Matthew Lew. People like calling me Matt Lew because it sounds like Mat – thew (they think it’s clever or something). I’m a freshman here at Rutgers, and I aim to graduate with a degree in Computer Science. I am of Chinese decent, but I consider myself whitewashed. Even though I know about as much Chinese as a horsefly, I still cherish my heritage, and I plan on joining one of Rutger’s many Chinese culture clubs. I was actually a board member of my high school’s Asian Club and helped plan events that raised money for charity. Hopefully, I can continue helping people at Rutgers too.

Looking at my hobbies, most people would probably categorize myself as a “nerd”. I love video games to death and I have a habit of quoting my favorite movies during conversations. My most overused quotes come from the likes of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanAmerican Psycho, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises. If I use them in a conversation, I apologize in advance for whatever annoyances I might cause.

I might say something like this

Some of my favorite video games include Halo: CE, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and Guild Wars 2. If any of these look familiar, contact me! I would love to play some time. Other things I enjoy include Japanese anime and music. Anime completely replaced television for me, and I don’t really have the patience to sit and watch Spongebob anymore. It has to be my favorite pastime (other than eating). I’m also big on Japanese music. If you have any in your music collection, definitely send me some. If you haven’t listened to Sakanaction as a lover of Japanese music, please check them out. They are by far my favorite band.

Sakanaction

I consider myself mildly athletic, although I never really played on any teams. The only sport I ever really played was Ultimate Frisbee, and even then, people are hesitant to fully accept that as a “sport”. In high school, I played on a team put together by the students. I was never actually that good, but my team won the Division II State Championship. It sounds fancy, but that just means we were the best of the worst. Here’s a picture of my team at States (I’m not actually in the picture):

EB Ultimate!

I don’t really know how to classify my taste in music, but I would say I like Rock music the most. My favorite bands include: Sakanaction, The Killers, Phoenix, Straightener, The Strokes, and Young the Giant. If you’ve never listened to Japanese music before, here’s a little taste:

I have a strange infatuation with cooking videos/shows/channels, ESPECIALLY the Food Network. Call me strange, but I could watch that channel for hours at a time without pause. Unfortunately, my cooking skills are mediocre at best. I tell myself every year that I will dedicate myself to learning how to cook, but I always end up setting off the fire alarms.

If you find cooking videos on youtube interesting, I suggest you look up channels like Sorted Food, runnyrunny999, and Food Wishes. That about wraps up my first blog post. Feel free to add me on facebook. I guess I’ll see you all on Tuesday. Until then:
